Piura cement plant

Last month, Peru’s Cementos Pacasmayo announced that it had received the first two shipments of equipment for its new cement plant in Piura, which is due to startup in 2H15. The new plant is being developed to be the most modern in the country. It will have a cement capacity of 1.6 million tpa and a clinker capacity of 1 million tpa. According to the cement manufacturer, the new facility will include installations from Loesche and ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions.

The Piura plant forms part of the company’s ‘multi-plant’ scheme, which involves standardising operations at the Piura, Pacasmayo and Rioja plants and ensuring that they meet the highest international standards. Cementos Pacasmayo’s cement sales volumes grew by 4% y/y in 2013.

Phosphate project

Meanwhile, BNAmericas has reported that Peru’s Energy and Mines Ministry has granted Cementos Pacasmayo approval for an environmental impact study for a phosphate project worth US$500 million. The Fosfatos del Pacífico S.A. project comprises Bayóvar concessions in northern Peru. Mitsubishi also holds a 30% stake in the project, after acquiring it from Cementos Pacasmayo in December 2011. The site is estimated to have the capacity to produce some 2.5 million tpa of phosphate over 20 years.
