US cement shipments increased in January 2014

The USGS has released its monthly data on US cement shipments for January 2014. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the US and Puerto Rico in January 2014 stood at 4.9 million t, a slight increase from January 2013. The leading Portland cement-producing States in January were Texas, California, Florida, Missouri and Alabama. The leading consuming States were Texas, California, Florida, Arizona and Oklahoma. These States received about 52% of the January total shipments.

Clinker production was approximately 4.6 million t in January 2014, a nearly 7% y/y compared to the output in January 2013. The leading clinker-producing States in January were Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and South Carolina. These accounted for around 54% of total production for the country.

Masonry cement shipments totalled 146 000 t in January 2014, a 4% y/y from those of January 2013. The leading masonry cement-consuming States were Florida, Texas, California, Georgia and North Carolina. These received about 62% of January’s total shipments.

Imports of cement and clinker in January 2014 stood at approximately 407 000 t, a 12% y/y decrease compared to imports in January 2013.
