Cemento Cerro Azul plant’s line 1 to begin production next month
The Venezuelan press has reported that the first line of the Cemento Cerro Azul plant will begin production in mid-November, citing representatives from Frente de Trabajadores Socialistas de Cemento Cerro Azul. The line will have a production capacity of 1 million tpa, which will double by 1Q14. The plant, which is located in the state of Monagas, has provided 400 construction jobs and will generate 2000 indirect jobs.
The cement produced at the plant will contribute towards “Venezuela’s Great Housing Mission” (La Gran Misión Vivienda Venezuela), as well as infrastructure projects in the country.
Work on the plant follows an agreement with Iranian companies, signed under Chávez, to help stimulate production levels in the Venezuelan cement industry.
