Holcim Mexico has started the operation of an onsite production facility to supply premixed concrete for the foundation of the passenger terminal of Mexico City’s new international airport (NAICM), according to Manuel Sirtori, Corporate Director of Premixed Concrete, Sales, Logistics and Distribution for the company.
“Holcim Mexico is proud to participate in the construction of the country’s most extensive infrastructure project of the century. To contribute in the building of the new airport is a great distinction for us and a showing of trust and support on the part of ICA e IDINSA, our strategic partners in the development of this phenomenal job”, said Manuel Sirtori.
Onsite installations have the capacity to deliver sufficient daily premixed concrete, under the safest working conditions, to build a concrete slab with an area of 310 000 m2, and a depth of 1.5 m.
The land where the NAICM is being built presents a substantial technical challenge, and demands adherence to strict durability specifications ffered by highly-specialised concrete solutions.
According to ICA directors, on the key points in the project’s execution is the national and international experience in structures that require highly specialized materials brought by Holcim Mexico, who will provide support during the entire building process.
The design and supply of the concrete to be used in this project will contribute to achieving the LEED Platinum certification for the NAICM, which is the highest sustainability grade possible for buildings. The endorsement includes design, construction and operation phases.
The NAICM is a unique project in America, with a long-term social vision that is 100% sustainable. It will be one of the world’s largest airports and will satisfy Mexico’s huge market potential.
