Georg Lechner, Scheuch, describes the process of replacing an outdated electrostatic precipitator with a bag filter featuring emc filter technology at Holcim Schweiz’s Untervaz location.

Holcim Schweiz AG is a subsidiary of the multinational building materials group Holcim Ltd where values such as social and environmental awareness are important parts of the corporate philosophy. At all three of Holcim Schweiz AG’s locations in Switzerland, Scheuch has made long-term contributions to the protection of people and the environment with its air pollution control technologies. At the Untervaz location, the filter for the clinker cooler was equipped with Scheuch technology in 2012, and it operated without any problems, offering good performance. In 2019, this track-record to another major joint project. The electrostatic precipitator in the kiln filter was around 30 years old and was replaced by a bag filter with emc filter technology, since it was no longer possible to meet the emissions limits using an electrostatic process.

Bag filters with emc filter technology from Scheuch are designed to ensure a clean gas dust content of < 5 mg/Nm3; optimal design concepts have been developed and coordinated to customer and process requirements. For example, virtually all of the existing components were integrated into the new project and coordinated optimally with one another. Before the planning stage began, a 3D scan of the existing kiln dedusting system was taken. This made work during the planning stage much easier and the customer was able to gain an understanding of the exact conversion work required.

The plant manager at Holcim Untervaz, Markus Hepberger, reported, “We are very satisfied with the Scheuch bag filter with emc filter technology. From both an environmental and economic perspective, this has been underlined in impressive fashion by the operating experience”.
