Sika launches new product

World Cement,

Sika has announced that its high-performance sheet membrane system for below-ground applications, named SikaProof, can now be applied to concrete post-production, due to the launch of a new and easy to apply variant: Sikaproof P-12.

SikaProof P-12 is a full and permanently bonded self-adhesive composite sheet membrane waterproofing system for reinforced concrete structures, including horizontal slabs, decks and podiums, vertical walls, extensions and reconstruction works, and precast concrete structures. The product consists of a highly flexible polyolefin (FPO)-based membrane which is pre-coated with an adhesive sealant layer, making the membrane system itself self-adhesive. The cold-applied system can be installed onto hardened concrete structures or after double-sided formwork on a wide variety of basement applications using a simple peel and stick process, which avoids the need for heat or open flames. SikaProof P-12 provides effective high performance waterproofing and concrete protection for basements and other below ground structures against ground water ingress with no lateral water underflow.

SikaProof delivers long life expectancy even in aggressive conditions such as seawater and soil with high sulphate content, or humic and other acids. SikaProof offers specifiers a variety of advantages over traditional waterproofing including longer life expectancy than some plastic alternatives and rigorously-tested detailing solutions for joints and penetrations.

Alex Burman, Product Manager Waterproofing, commented: “SikaProof P-12 allows a wider range of construction projects to enjoy the high performance waterproofing benefits of the SikaProof system by offering a post-applied solution. It joins the comprehensive range of Sika waterproofing solutions which enable designers to provide complete waterproofing for below-ground areas.”

The system has been tested to ASTM D 5385, CE certification in accordance with British Standard EN 13967, and other functional tests for detail solutions. It is ideal for use in waterproofing reinforced concrete basements and other below-ground structures in housing, commercial, leisure, manufacturing and warehouse sectors. Engineered structures such as retaining walls can also be protected using the system.
