Galbiati Group operates five divisions: mechanical machining and construction, gear reducers, and the engineering and construction of mechanical machines, presses, and notching machines.
The company focuses on the flexibility and quality of the manufacturing and revamping of machines. It is capable of inspecting and clarifying its own parts using a ZEISS MMZ-G 30 60 25 three dimensional measuring machine. The company aims to change and respond promptly to the engineering and manufacturing requirements of its customers, investing in new resources, machines, training, and research each year.
Design, construction, and reconditioning
The company has experience in the design, manufacture, and revamping of mechanical transmissions for the steel industry (hot and cold rolling mills), large Edger drives, pinion stands and twin drives for mill stands, main drives for shears, tilting converter drives, and coilers and uncoilers. This is alongside drives for the cement industry and solid mills, and girth gears for cement mills and kilns.
The group designs and manufactures main and auxiliary gear drives for mills and kilns, with rigid electro-welded housings, carburised DIN 6 profile ground teeth, high quality roller type bearings sized for 100 000 hours of full load service, and splash or forced-feed lubrication. A full speed, reduced load test checks that temperatures, vibrations, noise level, pressure, and oil flow rates meet design values.
Gear drives for the cement industry
The Galbiati Group manufactures main and auxiliary drives for mills and kilns in the cement industry. It recently implemented a rigid electro-welded housing welded and machined on CNC machine tools of modern design. The main drive is driven by an electric motor of 1200 hp, with a total weight of 34 000 kg.
The gears are made from high-quality forgings and carburised, using a special process and ISO-DIN 6 quality ground finish. Welds are performed by a complete preheating and cooling process, due to the different carbon contents and thermal expansion system of each bearing. Two input shafts and high quality roller type bearings are sized for 100 000 hours of full-load service. This has been successfully tested at the group’s workshop in the presence of both the customer and the end-user.
The company also manufactures girth gears for mills and kilns. These are made from a forged rim on a welded steel structure.
At Industria Cementi Giovanni Rossi S.p.A., a gear set with 4800 mm/800 mm dia. was installed for a cement drive.
The outer diameter of the gear wheels was 1530 mm, with a band of 200 mm, form of 10/Z 141, and weight of 1300 kg. The structure was composed of an external 4CrNiMo6 steel ring.
Galbiati Group is an Italian company working in machining, mechanical engineering, and construction. Specialising in machining large components, the company is operates in markets that require precision components and machines. Primarily, the group serves the steel, energy, astronomy, power transmission, and general engineering industries.
