Rohrdorfer launches environmentally friendly cement delivery via electric truck

World Cement,
Rohrdorfer is adding three electric trucks to its fleet for cement deliveries from its plant in Gmunden. In cooperation with logistics company Poll-Nussbaumer, three Mercedes eActros 600 trucks will be used. Due to electrification, transport will be less polluting and quieter. Two vehicles are already on Austrian roads, and another will follow by the end of the year.

Climate neutral thanks to 100% green electricity charging
Rohrdorfer currently offers three CO2-reduced cements. The "Eco Fusion" grade boasts a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to the reference year of 1990. Eco Fusion is already in high demand because it allows for the production of highly CO2-reduced concretes, such as those required for public sector construction projects. Rohrdorfer and Poll-Nussbaumer have committed to making the delivery of these CO2-reduced cements emission-free. Therefore, the vehicles are charged exclusively at Poll-Nussbaumer's Gmunden site. This site sources 100% green electricity from an energy provider and has also been generating its own electricity with a photovoltaic system since 2017. The new electric trucks thus operate with zero carbon emissions.
“The partnership with Poll-Nussbaumer is an important step for us in implementing climate protection along the entire value chain. By reducing CO2 emissions for both our products and our own operations, we are also supporting our customers in initiating the urgently needed changes,” says Herbert Humps, Sales Manager and Authorised Representative of Rohrdorfer Zement GmbH in Gmunden.
Manfred Nussbaumer, managing partner of Poll-Nussbaumer, also welcomes the joint project: “Respectful treatment of the environment is of paramount importance to our company. Therefore, we already handle a considerable portion of our transport volume using combined transport. The acquisition of the electric trucks for use at Rohrdorfer represents a further step towards environmentally friendly transport.”
The electric fleet stands out visually
The new electric trucks impress with their technical specifications: With up to 600 kW of power, a top speed of 80 km/h, and a range of up to 500 kilometers, the sought-after building material reaches customers just as quickly and reliably as before. Compared to diesel, the eActros 600 reduces the noise level by around 10 decibels, which is perceived as halving the volume. This benefits not only residents along the transport routes but also the drivers. To highlight the environmentally friendly deliveries from afar, Rohrdorfer has completely redesigned the silo trailers. In addition to the striking green colour and the slogan "We Go Green," the prominent placement of the CCC label ensures that it is immediately clear: CO2-reduced cement is being delivered in an environmentally friendly manner.
