Orient Cement joins Cement Sustainability Initiative

CK Birla Group’s Orient Cement Ltd has joined the Cement Sustainability Initiative (CSI). The CSI is a voluntary business initiative, operating under the auspices of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, that aims to push sustainable development in the cement sector.

According to a company press release, Orient Cement expects its membership of the initiative to help push its sustainability agenda.

“We are delighted to be a part of the global mission to make our industry shoulder the responsibility for global sustainability,” said Deepak Khetrapal, Managing Director and CEO of Orient Cement.

“We expect to contribute to and benefit from our participation in the various working groups of this initiative and look for ward to a very engaging and fulfilling journey ahead,” Khetrapal continued. “We accept this membership with a deep sense of responsibility and intend to play our role to the utmost extent.”

The US$1.6 billion CK Birla Group is a diversified conglomerate employing over 20 000 employees. According to its website, Orient Cement has a total capacity of 8 million tpy with plans to expand to 15 million tpy by 2020.
