Ambuja Cements, the cement and building material of the diversified Adani Group, as a part of its CSR initiative to address prolonged water scarcity in Kherwad village, has successfully revamped the village’s pond system, ensuring all-year-round water availability to villagers.

Kherwad, a modest village in Didiya Kala Gram Panchayat of Jayal Block in Naguar district with a population of 939 inhabitants and 161 households, has historically faced challenges with its six ponds. Encroachments and a weak catchment area previously led to water exhaustion in just a few months.

Recognising the gravity of the issue, especially during peak summer months when villagers were compelled to depend on neighbouring communities for water, Ambuja Cements proposed an innovative solution. The plan consisted of excavating ponds for superior catchment potential.

Ambuja Cements and the villagers joined hands to excavate and enhance the pond's water storage capacity. Critical repairs to the catchment area were undertaken, and soil slit removed during the excavation was repurposed to benefit the agricultural fields.

The project's success is evident. Kherwad's revamped pond system now retains water throughout the year and it has become water-sufficient. With sustainable solutions like these, Ambuja Cements in its transformational journey of community development through CSR, continues to create self-reliant communities, ensuring that essential resources like water are accessible to all.
