Heidelberg Materials celebrates completion of Northern Lights CO2 facility in Norway

Heidelberg Materials marked a significant milestone today with the completion of the CO2 receiving facilities at the Northern Lights Summit on Norway’s west coast.
As a key partner in the Longship project, Northern Lights Joint Venture will manage the transportation of CO2 captured from Brevik, utilising a state-of-the-art infrastructure designed for safe and permanent storage 2,600 m below the seabed.
Giv K. Brantenberg, General Manager at Heidelberg Materials Northern Europe, highlighted the collaborative nature of the project: "The benefits of sharing our learnings across industries and borders have been immense. This project has significant value not just for Norway but for our teams globally, advancing the decarbonisation of the building materials industry."
Heidelberg Materials is set to be the first industrial customer to transport CO2 by ship to Northern Lights, underscoring its commitment to pioneering innovative carbon management solutions.
