Continuous investment in technology and innovation has enabled the operation to modernise, increase efficiency and keep the Alhandra plant at the forefront of the sector, while preserving its strong connection with the area where it was established.
Today, the site employs more than 150 people and, with an annual cement production capacity of 2.8 million t, makes a significant contribution to the local economy, employment and Portugal’s industrial expertise. In response to challenges such as decarbonisation and resource efficiency, it has combined accumulated knowledge with new solutions to address the sector’s evolution. This international recognition is also a source of pride for Portugal, honouring an industrial site with more than 130 years of history that has preserved its legacy, kept pace with the sector’s evolution and helped showcase Portuguese industry internationally.
People are at the heart of this longevity. The plant’s history has been built by several generations of employees and families, in a close relationship with the surrounding community that remains central to its identity.

The Guinness World Records title recognises a journey spanning more than 130 years, built by successive generations and defined by the ability to keep pace with the industry’s evolution. It is a legacy that CIMPOR will continue to carry into the future through innovation and a commitment to increasingly efficient and sustainable production.
