FLSmidth announces corporate restructuring

World Cement,

FLSmidth is to reorganise its business based around two core industries – cement and mining – and a new, decentralised regional structure for customer relations, sales, and service. A central digital organisation, headed by the company’s new Chief Digital Office Mikael Lindholm, will drive a unified approach to digitalisation.

The new organisation will go into effect from 1 July 2018.

“With the end markets recovering, our customers accelerate to invest in productivity enhancing and digital solutions,” said Group CEO Thomas Schulz.

“To support our customers’ growth, the two industries – cement and mining – will deliver integrated productivity offering through the regions. Our decentralised organisation will give us a strong point of entry to offer our customers key products, shorter delivery times, and a strong setup.”

The region-based structure for sales, and services makes a change fro FLSmidth’s previous country-based organisation. The new regional organisations will be North America; South America; Europe, Russia and North Africa; Sub-Saharan Africa and Middle East; Asia; Subcontinental India; and Australia.

The restructuring also sees an end to the Product Companies Division, which has housed FLSmidth's so-called product companies, including FLSmidth MAAG Gear, FLSmidth Ventomatic, FLSmidth Pfister, and FLSmidth Airtech. Although these brands will be retained, the product companies will now be integrated into FLSmidth's main corporation structure, an FLSmidth spokesperson told World Cement.

Within the new business structure, Jan Kjaersgaard will take up the position of Cement President. Kjaersgaard – who joined FLSmidth last year from Bladt Industries – is currently Group Executive Vice President of the Product Companies Division. Manfred Schaffer, current Group Executive Vice President of the Minerals Division, will take up the position as Mining President.

Kjaersgaard and Schaffer will form part of the new group executive management, along with Group CEO Schulz, Lindholm, and Group Chief Finance Office Lars Vestergaard.
