World Cement,
The concrete prize of the Güteverband Transportbeton (GVTB) was awarded for the seventh time. With this initiative, the GVTB goes on the search, year after year, for projects with a sophisticated architectural design, which were mainly built with ready-mixed concrete. The bicycle and walkway bridge in Gratkorn, Styria, submitted by Rohrdorfer Transportbeton, was chosen as the winner in the infrastructure category.
The municipality decided in favour of an aesthetically and materially innovative construction made of ECC concrete (Easy Compacting Concrete). The easy-flowing concrete enables it to be introduced into the fully enclosed shell from below, thus displacing the air upwards. The construction of the bridge is the first attempt to use ECC concrete for very long concreting routes. The prestressed concrete trough structure now gives cyclists and pedestrians a comfortable way to cross the Mur.
The new bridge was urgently needed as part of the regional bicycle traffic concept of the two communities Gratwein-Straßengel and Gratkorn to modernise the bicycle infrastructure. The jury was enthusiastic about both the design and the execution.
