World Cement,
Cemvision and Siemens AB have signed a strategic partnership to develop and scale near-zero carbon cement production facilities. The collaboration brings together Cemvision's breakthrough technology with Siemens' industrial systems expertise and global reach – creating a rare convergence of innovation and industrial capability at a critical moment for climate action.
Cement production is one of the most overlooked climate culprits. It accounts for roughly 7 – 8% of global CO2 emissions. Yet the industry has remained largely unchanged for decades. Cemvision is changing that equation.
The company has developed "Re-ment," a circular cement produced primarily from industrial residuals and by-products - materials that would otherwise be discarded. By combining these recovered materials with fossil-free energy, Cemvision has created technology capable of reducing emissions by up to 95 percent compared to conventional cement production.
Why this partnership matters
The partnership encompasses multiple dimensions, with Siemens positioned as a preferred supplier for Cemvision's production facilities. Covering a broad range of products and services, including medium and low voltage distribution, control systems, variable speed drives, process instrumentation, and cybersecurity, as well as digital solutions such as plant lifecycle management, IT/OT integration, and plant simulation. The parties are also exploring a virtual plant (digital twin) solution to support pre-design activities, value engineering, and a virtual ramp-up of Cemvision's facilities.
Additionally, the partners are exploring Siemens, becoming an early customer of Cemvision's cement within its own supply chain, providing both market validation and demand certainty.
"Digital twins and advanced process control can optimise cement production in ways that weren't possible before. By combining Cemvision's cement chemistry expertise with our digital and automation capabilities, we're creating a blueprint for next-generation sustainable manufacturing," says Andrea Waenerlund, CEO Siemens, Nordics.
“This partnership aligns with both companies' sustainability agendas - Cemvision's mission to decarbonise cement production and Siemens' focus on green industrial transformation. We are looking forward to exploring the full potential of this partnership," says Oscar Hållén, CEO of Cemvision.
The partnership is formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding, with both companies committed to advancing the collaboration toward commercial deployment.
