Cemex is advancing its growth strategy by expanding its Urbanisation Solutions business in the UK with a new lower-carbon mortar plant near London.
The plant, expected to be operational in the second half of this year, will increase Cemex’s production capacity in the southern UK and strengthen its position as a national supplier of sprayed dry mortar solutions.
"As part of our growth strategy, we are pursuing targeted acquisitions and greenfield projects in developed markets,” said Fernando A. González, CEO of Cemex. “This strategically located plant will enhance our production capacity in the country, advance our decarbonisation goals and allow us to provide an even better experience to our customers in the region.”
The new plant will produce Cemex’s Vertua lower-carbon mortar, which has a minimum 30% lower carbon footprint than standard mortars due to advanced admixture technology and a more efficient production process. Additionally, it will incorporate a state-of-the-art drying system designed to minimise heat consumption and significantly reduce fuel consumption throughout the production process.
Cemex has steadily advanced its business strategy since 2020, with growth investments contributing US$344 million to consolidated EBITDA last year. Cemex’s Urbanisation Solutions business has been a key growth driver, significantly supporting EBITDA performance.
