Holcim UK announce the appointment of Krish Patel as Plant Manager for its Tilbury Cement Works, currently under construction at the Port of Tilbury.
The multi-million-pound facility, set to open in summer 2026, marks a significant step in the business’ strategy to accelerate sustainable construction through innovation, circularity, and decarbonisation.
Krish joins at a pivotal moment in the cement plant’s development, with all civil works now complete and structural and mechanical installation underway. Over the coming months, he will lead the preparation for operational readiness.
This includes building the on-site team, establishing systems and procedures, and laying the groundwork for what will be one of the UK’s most advanced cementitious materials import and grinding facilities. The terminal will supply conventional, low carbon and circular materials 24/7 through five high-capacity loading heads.
Bringing a wealth of experience from the heavy building materials sector, Krish is known for transforming large-scale industrial operations and driving continuous improvement. His appointment reflects Holcim’s commitment to excellence in execution and leadership as it scales up its UK manufacturing and import capabilities.
Tilbury will be a flagship terminal not only for Holcim, but for the wider industry – showcasing how cement manufacturing can evolve to meet the challenges of the construction sector and supply chain resilience," said Krish.
"I’m excited to lead this next chapter as we look to deliver low carbon and circular materials to the construction industry and build a high-performing operation that puts people, innovation and sustainability at its core.”
Krish began his career with Holcim as an apprentice before rising through the ranks at materials supplier Heidelberg Materials, where he held several senior roles including Works Manager at the firm’s Purfleet Cement Terminal.
As well as leading plant operations, Krish will also champion STEM education in the local area. As a former apprentice himself, he is committed to engaging with local schools and colleges to promote careers in science, technology, engineering, and manufacturing.
Krish added: “This facility will play a key role in supporting construction demand across London and the South East, offering our customers reliable access to high-quality, lower carbon products. But not just that, it’s also an opportunity to invest in the next generation – by creating visible and exciting career paths for potential future colleagues.”
Located on the River Thames at the Port of Tilbury, the terminal’s strategic location will allow Holcim to deliver greater supply chain efficiency and reduce transport emissions, supporting the company’s broader sustainability goals.
Mohamed Alami, Managing Director of Holcim UK’s Cement Division, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Krish back to Holcim at such an exciting time for the business. His leadership, technical expertise, and passion for developing people make him an excellent fit for this industry-leading facility.
“With Krish at the helm, we’re confident that Tilbury Cement Works will set new standards in operational performance and sustainability for the UK construction materials sector.”
