Holcim UK name new Cement Managing Director

Published by , Assistant Editor
World Cement,

Mohamed Ben Driss Alami has been appointed as the new Managing Director of Holcim UK’s Cement Division to lead the charge on bringing more low carbon cement solutions to market.

Mohamed has worked at Holcim for 16 years, and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge from various roles across the globe, including France and the United States. Most recently, Mohamed was the Chief Financial Officer at Holcim Algeria.

In his new position, Mohamed will be overseeing key developments in the Cement Division, with essential projects to reduce carbon emissions already underway. These comprise, amongst others, the major investment in Tilbury with the development of a new cement plant and terminal; development of a new Carbon Capture & Storage facility at Holcim UK’s Cauldon site, and supporting the Peak Cluster Initiative - the world‘s largest joint-venture cement decarbonisation project.

With Holcim’s commitment to become net zero by 2050, Mohamed will coordinate the decarbonisation of the Cement division’s operations and solutions. In terms of solutions, this includes a new CEM II low-carbon cement formulation that will be manufactured at Tilbury. On an operational level, Holcim UK is in motion with electrifying its fleet and using HVO-powered vehicles to deliver cementitious products throughout the UK from its Cauldon plant.

Mohamed said: “The Holcim UK Cement business is full of potential. I am looking forward to working with the talented people we have in the team to take the business to the next level, especially with the work we’re already doing to reduce carbon emissions. I believe that Holcim can lead the way in the decarbonisation of the cement industry. Together, we can create long-lasting and real change to build a sustainable future.”
