Cement news highlights: 15 – 19 September
Cement plants: investments and divestments
- Cementos Argos is investing US$450 million in a new production line at the Sogamoso, Boyacá plant in Colombia.
- Buzzi’s Dyckerhoff has purchased the 1.1 million tpa wet process plant in Korkino for an enterprise value of €104 million.
- According to reports, PT Semen Indonesia is investigating the possibility of constructing a new cement plant in the province of Papua.
Cement, clinker and limestone statistics
- Domestic cement consumption increased by 4.6% m/m in Argentina in August 2014, while ASOCEM’s member companies sold 908 553 t of cement on the Peruvian national market.
- Oficemen has released the latest statistics from the Spanish cement sector, noting that domestic consumption fell by 2% y/y to 7.1 million t in the first eight months of 2014.
- According to the Lake Carriers’ Association, shipments of limestone on North America’s Great Lakes reached 3.7 million t in August, up 2.8% y/y.
- In August 2014, cement consumption in Cataluña, Spain, dropped by 17% y/y and was 84% lower than in August 2007.
Roads, trucks and ships
- Lafarge Malaysia Berhad will share data from the GPS utilisation in its trucks with MIROS in order to improve road transport safety in the country.
- A new report from the Portland Cement Association calls for policymakers to take road surfaces into account when developing fuel standards for heavy-duty trucks.
- Wärtsilä is supplying a 6-cylinder Wärtsilä 34DF main engine for a new cement carrier being built at the Scheepswerf Ferus Smit yard in the Netherlands.
