A TEC Production & Services GmbH, based in Austria, has been awarded a contract by Çimentas Elazig for engineering for the upgrade and efficiency optimisation of the preheater at the company’s Elazig plant in Anatolia, Turkey.

The scope of modifications comprises the redesign of all four cyclone stages, riser ducts and related equipment with the aim of reducing the total preheater pressure drop by approximately 25% and increasing the production capacity by at least 8% on a sustainable basis.

The project will be executed in two phases; the top stage and second stage modifications were scheduled to be completed in May 2014 and the third and fourth stages will conclude in 2015. Phase one was successfully commissioned mid-May 2014, resulting in a sustainable production increase of around 8% and a pressure drop reduction at the ID fan inlet of approximately 19% at the pre-modification production rate. Based on the phase one results, it is expected that the pressure drop before the ID fan will be reduced beyond the target figures after completion of phase two, which will allow even higher production at less specific power consumption (kWh/t) on the ID fan than initially targeted.
