Ethiopian cement producer awards two contracts to A TEC

In 1Q13, A TEC won a contract to design and install a cement big bag filling station for Ethiopian cement producer Messebo Building Materials Production Pvt. Ltd Co. The scope of the contract includes engineering, major equipment supply, erection, commissioning, start-up and training. Local manufacturing and erection will be carried out by Mesfin Industrial Engineering PLC, Messebo’s sister company.

The system will be installed at the company’s Mekelle plant to allow for greater delivery flexibility. The new system comprises three filling stations in a modular design, each with a capacity of 15 bags/hour. Total capacity for the system will be 45 big bags/hour or 90 tph.

The filling station will be installed and commissioned at the end of 2013.

Alternative fuel system
The Ethiopia-based cement manufacturer also awarded A TEC a supply contract for an alternative fuel system handling sesame straw/stalk. A TEC will provide engineering, equipment supply, civil construction works and supervision services, while Mesfin will handle local manufacturing and erection.

To prevent any adverse reaction to using alternative fuels with coal, the plant’s main fuel source, an investigation is carried out before the biomass fuel feeding system is implemented. The system comprises the installation of two separate areas to cover both preparation and dosing to the plant. Collection and preparation of the straw and production bales will take place at Kafta Humera.

To ensure maximum flexibility, the design will be carried out in two phases with different plant capacities. The first phase, which will be realised in the current project, will cover a baling capacity of 50 tph and an alternative fuel feeding capacity to the calciner of 10 tph. Phase two involves the design for a scale-up to a baling capacity of 71 tph and an alternative fuel feeding capacity of 20 tph.

Installation is due to begin in 4Q13, with commissioning scheduled for 1Q14.
