Heidelberg Materiales Hispania has appointed Carlos Sánchez Galán as the new General Manager to replace Jesús Ortiz Used, who has been in this position for the last 18 years.

Until the time of his appointment as General Manager, which became effective on January 1, Carlos Sánchez Galán occupied the Commercial Directorate of Cement and the Directorate of Arides and Concrete Operations of the Spanish subsidiary of the multinational group Heidelberg Materials.

Carlos Sánchez Galán has extensive experience at Heidelberg Materials. He joined the group in 1997 as Director of Zona Canarias. Since then he has held different managerial positions in the Business Development area, as well as in the Commercial Operations and Purchasing department in Spain. In addition, he has been the representative of Heidelberg Materials in several national and international sector associations. His extensive experience covers operations management, business development and acquisitions, with a focus on operational excellence, sustainability and regulatory compliance.

In addition to the professional experience within the group, both nationally and internationally, he brings a solid level of knowledge, highlighting his bachelor's degree in Economic and Business Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid, the Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the Australian Graduate School of Management and a degree in Quarry Technology from the Doncaster College in the United Kingdom. Jesús Ortiz Used closes an 18-year stage, a period in which he has developed a successful work thanks to his exceptional leadership, his deep experience and his great commitment to Heidelberg Materials Hispania. Carlos Sánchez Galán will lead the Spanish subsidiary of Heidelberg Materials, one of the most important manufacturers of integrated construction materials and solutions in the world, with leading positions in the cement, aggregates and concrete market. Heidelberg Materials is a leader on the road to carbon neutrality and aims to ensure that all concrete, the final product, is carbon neutral by 2050.

"My goal is to continue and expand the legacy of innovation and sustainability that we have been building at Heidelberg Materials Hispania under the direction of Jesús Ortiz. Decarbonisation will continue to be a key priority, and I am committed to carrying out the projects that are already underway, as well as exploring new opportunities to reduce our carbon footprint, an essential step to maintain our current leadership and growth situation," says Carlos Sánchez Galán.

"In this 2025 it will be essential to continue the path of improvement of our results and this is only possible with the contribution of our aggregates and concrete businesses. These sectors are strategic and allow us the necessary integration of Heidelberg Materials' activities. Product innovation and improved operational efficiency will be key to achieving these objectives," he adds.

In Spain, Heidelberg's presence includes 2 cement factories, 5 quarries and 4 concrete plants, which allow perfect vertical integration in its market area. More than 170 years of local experience guarantee a leadership based on offering customers quality constructive solutions that allow them to build safe, sustainable and avant-garde cities and infrastructures. Currently, Heidelberg puts responsibility for the environment, decarbonisation, and the circular economy at the centre of all its actions.
