Environment Agency draws up draft permit for new SRF facility

The UK’s Environment Agency has drawn up a draft permit for a new solid recovered fuel (SRF) facility for Cemex’s Rugby cement plant, UK. SITA will run the recycling facility, which will be located at Malpass Farm. It will process industrial, domestic and commercial waste to produce Climafuel, which is used as an alternative fuel at the Rugby cement plant. Climafuel is also produced at SITA’s Landor Street facility in Birmingham. Production began at this £7 million plant in the summer of 2013. Together, the two SRF facilities will have the capacity to produce 250 000 tpa of Climafuel.

The council has granted planning permission for the Malpass Farm site. The draft environmental permit and document outlining the decision are available on the Environment Agency’s website for public consideration. This will be taken into account before the final decision is made.
