Health and Safety (H&S) is a core value that is embedded in the culture of LafargeHolcim. It concerns everyone who works for and with the company. The H&S function is now represented at the Group Executive Committee under the leadership of Magali Anderson, the Group’s first Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO).

The creation of the CSO position is a first for a global cement manufacturer and highlights the company’s intent to be an industry leader on sustainability topics. The Group Executive Committee is also supported by the Health, Safety, and Sustainability Committee, which was established in 2017 by the Board of Directors for the development and promotion of a healthy and safe environment for employees and contractors at all levels. The Group’s H&S strategy, ‘Ambition 0’, aims to achieve a zero-harm workplace and was defined in a collaborative manner involving country CEOs and executives across the organisation. ‘Ambition 0’ focuses on six pillars:

  • Onsite fatality elimination.
  • Zero-harm culture.
  • Systems and processes.
  • Road safety.
  • Control of health risks.
  • Contractor partnerships.
