New CEMBUREAU President and Vice President elected

World Cement,

A new President and Vice President of CEMBUREAU were elected at the Association’s General Assembly, which took place in Vienna this week. After serving as Vice President for the last year, Peter Hoddinott will take over from Ignacio Madridejos as President for two years. Hoddinott is currently Executive Vice President – Energy & Strategic Sourcing for Lafarge, and has experience in operational roles for Lafarge in Western Europe, Latin America and Southeast Asia. Daniel Gauthier has been elected to serve a two-year term as Vice President.

“Being elected to serve the cement industry of Europe is a privilege and honour,” said Hoddinott. “I am keenly looking forward to working with the whole sector to build on the foundations laid by Ignacio Madridejos over the past two years. Specifically, this involves actions to reinforce and strengthen the sector in the face of its current challenges, including:

  • Maintaining constructive dialogue with European Policymakers, Institutions and NGOs both to respond to, and be an actor in shaping, future policy proposals.
  • Promotion of the sector, showing how sustainable and innovative concrete construction can fulfill social, political and environmental needs, providing safe, energy efficient and durable housing and infrastructure.
  • Focusing on the need for a competitive and local cement industry, providing a unique contribution to Europe’s priorities of economic growth and environmental progress.”
