World Cement,
Colacem’s acquisition of the Maddaloni cement plant from Italcementi was finalised on 1 June, the companies confirmed in separate press releases. The Maddaloni plant is located in Caserta, Italy, and has a capacity of 1.4 million t.
Italcementi had acquired the Maddaloni plant when it bought Cementir Italia. Its divestment formed part of the measures required by the Italian competition authority, when approving the Cementir Italia acquisition.
The acquisition of the Maddaloni plant “demonstrates our trust in the potential of our country and in the role cement will play as an indispensible product today, as well as in the future,” said the directors of Colacem, which is increasing its market share in Italy with the deal.
In addition to Italy, Colacem operates in Spain, Albania, Tunisia, Canada, and the Dominican Republic. Italcementi is a subsidiary of global building materials giant, HeidelbergCement Group.
