World Cement,
TX Active, the active principle contained in the new biodynamic cement that will be used for Italian Pavilion at Expo 2015, is a finalist in the ‘Industry’ category for the European Inventor Award of the EPO – European Patent Office. The active principle was developed in the Group laboratories by an Italcementi research team originally headed by Professor Luigi Cassar. The awards take place on 17 June in Berlin.
"The nomination for the European Inventor Award 2014 shines a spotlight on Italian research's pivotal role in the development of innovative building materials," explains Carlo Pesenti, Chief Executive Officer of Italcementi Group. “Along with Italcementi TX Active, many other products developed in Italy are contributing to the evolution of the building sector to ensure sustainability and innovative performance. Italcementi is a forerunner in this respect. In addition to TX Active, this can be seen in products like the transparent cement developed for the Italian Pavilion at the Expo in Shanghai and the biodynamic cement which will be used for the iconic Italian Pavilion at Expo 2015. These extraordinary materials have been made possible through significant investments in research and a vision for the future of a sector increasingly focused on products that blend the reliability and durability of traditional cement with innovative environmental and architectural performance. Our researchers at i.lab, Italcementi research and innovation center, work daily on new products and applications to provide excellent solutions for the building community – turnover from which now accounts for more than 5% of total Group sales and is a significant contributing factor in our operating results."
The award’s winner will be chosen by a technical jury, composed of international authorities in the fields of politics, business, media, science, academia and research.
The general public is invited to vote online for the Popular Prize. You can learn more about the nominees and cast your vote on the EPO website.
