Hanson celebrates International Women’s Day

World Cement,

To celebrate International Women’s Day, Hanson has taken the opportunity to celebrate the careers and achievements of women across its business with a number of initiatives.

These initiatives include a live questions and answers session with Hanson’s CEO Simon Willis and members of the company’s Network of Women (NOW UK) group to talk about the important steps Hanson is taking to becoming a more fair, respectful and inclusive business.

“We are working hard to improve the gender balance as currently only 17% of our workforce are women and our aim is to make a substantive change in this area,” said Simon Willis.

“It’s important to remember that having a more equitable gender balance can increase positivity, lead to better problem solving and enable all to progress their careers.”

Guest speaker Dr Ines Ploss, Director of Group Purchasing at Hanson’s parent company, HeidelbergCement, will also talk about what she is doing to support HeidelbergCement’s global NOW group.

In addition, several women from across the business have recorded short videos to talk about their experiences of working at Hanson and the opportunities on offer.

The NOW UK group was launched last year to drive action and create an open platform for discussion and to further awareness of the importance of gender equality. Along with an active membership of over 100 employees, the group holds ‘lunch and learn’ meetings, which facilitate discussion on important gender-focussed topics, with women mentors from within Hanson also sharing their knowledge and experiences.
