Buxton charity tour at Tunstead

Representatives from the Buxton Grapevine Wellbeing Centre were given experience of the quarrying lime and cement industry at a recent tour of Tarmac’s site at Tunstead.

Tarmac made a donation of £715 to the Grapevine Charity in April, following its Quarryman exhibition of historic images. Staff and service users from the Grapevine charity were keen to visit Tarmac at Tunstead and were given an exciting insight, which included witnessing a stone blast from the refurbished viewing platform at Old Moor Quarry, before heading over to the cement plant.

Julian Cohen, a trustee at the charity who also attended the day, said: “Everyone really enjoyed the visit and was impressed by the huge scale of the operation and the guide, who provided lots of background information and answered queries in a very informative way”.

Viv Russell, Lime & Powders Director at Tunstead, said: “It was great to have staff and users of the Grapevine Wellbeing centre visit our Tunstead site to learn about what we do here. We see this as an important part of giving back in to the community.”

As an integrated part of the local Buxton community, the Tunstead Quarry, cement and lime plant regularly carries out a number of various visits throughout the year, operated by experienced guides from the site.
