Cemex cement solutions help to bring Alicante's new Paseo del Mar destination to life.

Cemex Spain has provided its cement solutions through Hormigones y Morteros del Sol for the construction of Paseo del Mar, a new restaurant and leisure centre located in the port of Torrevieja, Alicante.
Inaugurated in June 2026 and promoted by Empresas del Sol, Paseo del Mar has become one of the most significant projects on the Alicante coast, due to its size, location, and construction complexity. The complex has more than 10 000 m² of surface area, 27 commercial premises, and 6 two-storey buildings. It also features public viewpoints, including a large elevated walkway and pedestrian ramps that improve connectivity to the surrounding port area.
In addition, the centre contains an underground car park with capacity for up to 600 vehicles. This has enabled the creation of more open spaces at surface level that integrate the restaurants and leisure facilities with areas to walk, rest, and take in sea views.
With the development situated in a geotechnically complex port and maritime environment, 511 specialist deep pile foundations were installed, helping to ensure structural stability.
For this project, Cemex has mainly supplied its high-performance cements CEM II/B-M (S-LL) 42.5 R and III/A 42.5 N/SRC, both produced with hydraulic additions, which help reduce direct net CO2 emissions in the manufacturing process.1 These types of cement also provide robust performance features that enhance concrete workability. The cements supplied have a carbon footprint declared in their corresponding Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), verified by a third party in accordance with the EN 15804 standard.
"Paseo del Mar is a clear example of how construction materials play an essential role in increasingly complex works. For Cemex, participating in projects of this nature means providing specialist solutions that are capable of responding to the technical and structural demands of the development," said Jaime Isla, Commercial Cement Director of Cemex in Spain.
Cemex's contribution to the development of Paseo del Mar reinforces its role as a strategic partner in projects of high technical complexity and in developing innovative solutions for the future of construction.
Notes
1 As a baseline of direct emissions (kg CO2/t of cement), the value accepted by the Global Cement & Concrete Association is used as the emissions standard for a CEM I in the year 2000 (822 kg CO2/t of cement)
