Thorwesten Vent, a German expert in the field of constructional explosion protection, has completed the contract for design and assembly of a large capacity silo for the storage of pulverised lignite in Switzerland. In close cooperation with their sister company Silobau Thorwesten (expert in the field of the construction of silo solutions) the engineering teams of both companies worked out an impressive solution: a 2300 m3 silo, 55 m high and with a diameter of 9 m.

The silo cell was equipped with a maintenance-friendly flat roof and Thorwesten ensured the delivery of the complete safety equipment for an ATEX-conform operation. The company used its newly developed self-reclosing explosion venting devices based on a carbon fibre lid and an emergency inerting system in combination with an intelligent analysis and monitoring system. Additional components, including instrumentation and an infeed line, completed the order and underline Thorwesten’s competence in turnkey projects.

The project was completed within 10 months and after a succesful test run the plant was handed over to the customer in December 2013.
