Toral de los Vados cement plant achieves an accident-free year
Cementos Cosmos, part of the Votorantim Group in Spain, has announced that its Toral de los Vados plant achieved a year without accidents in 2014. Preventative measures implemented by the company and the commitment of the plant’s workers helped to ensure that no direct employees suffered any mishaps during the year.
According to Thoger Christiansen, Industrial Director of Votorantim in Spain, the plant’s 12 months with zero accidents is a result of the company’s resolute commitment to the field of health and safety.
The Toral de los Vados plant produced 667 000 t of clinker in 2014, up 6% y/y. Due to the current economic situation in Spain, Cementos Cosmos has increased its focus on the export market. The plant exported 185 000 t of clinker in 2014, destined for Haiti, Ghana, Brazil and the Canary Islands. In addition, some 35 000 t of cement was dispatched in bulk form from the Port of Marín, Pontevedra, to Madeira.
