Lafarge Cement UK launches cement recycling scheme

World Cement,

From this month, Lafarge Cement’s merchant customers can arrange to have out of date cement collected from their yards by the usual delivery system. This service is being applied to all their packed cement products, and applies regardless of whether a merchant has a single bag or a lorry load to dispose of.

This news scheme has come about because of the escalating costs of landfill, and a government directive for all construction companies to cut landfill waste by 50% by 2012.

Kieron Hall, packed marketing manager at Lafarge Cement UK, said, “For our merchant customers, this saves money on skip hire and landfill charges and removes the problem of having to dispose of out of date cement. For the environment, it reduces the amount of construction waste going to landfill and supports local green initiatives in the community around our works.”

The company will also plant a tree at their works site for every tonne of cement that is recycled.
