The construction stage of a new production line at Italcementi’s cement plant in Devnya, Bulgaria, has officially been announced. The announcement follows the contracting of Sinoma/CBMI, which will act as the general subcontractor on the project.
Construction at the new cement plant will commence immediately, bringing the best available technology in cement production to Bulgaria with the most modern and up-to-date process, safety and environmental control systems. The new production line for clinker and cement will begin operations in early 2015. It will have a production capacity of around 1.5 million tpa, making it one of the largest of the company’s European plants. The project will reduce dust and CO2 emissions, as well as improving efficiency and the use of alternative fuels.
The Italcementi Group have invested approximately €160 million in the reconstruction and modernisation of the cement plant in Devnya – one of the largest industrial investments in Bulgaria in the last quarter of a century, with more than 1000 people due to be employed during the two year long construction phase.
Italcementi is the largest cement producer in Bulgaria. The new cement installation will allow the company to continue to meet domestic demand in support of the growing need of infrastructure projects, roads and bridges, as well as a wide variety of residential and non-residential construction works in the country. The plant is located near to the Varna West Port, a strategic location for exporting cement to the surrounding Black Sea region.
