Aggregate Industries charges up with new electric fleet

Aggregate Industries, a leading player in the construction materials industry, has announced a groundbreaking step in its commitment to sustainability with the introduction of Volvo electric trucks to its cement fleet.
Following a successful trial during the summer months, the company is now all set to deploy the very first electric cement truck in the UK, with more to follow in the future.
The new trucks will be based out of the company’s Cauldon cement plant in Stoke, alongside its existing 60-strong fleet and several electric charging points, all of which represent a significant leap towards environmental responsibility that will complement further low emission vehicles within the fleet, including biofuel.
“Introducing electric trucks in our operations marks a pivotal shift towards efficiency and sustainability and is all part of our ongoing effort to decarbonise the business and contribute to our own Net Zero Strategy”, says Steve Curly, managing director of Aggregate Industries’ cement division.
“The clean and powerful performance of electric vehicles not only reduces our carbon footprint but also enhances operational efficiency, ensuring a reliable and eco-friendly solution for transporting materials.
“By harnessing cutting-edge technology, we are not just modernising, we are optimising our processes to build a greener and more efficient future for our industry."
Key features of the electric cement trucks include:
- Versatile performance: Capable of delivering both bulk and bagged cement.
- Powerful specifications: The vehicles boast a 600KW motor, offering a sustainable alternative for transporting cement.
Furthermore, as part of the move to electric, Aggregate Industries is partnering with Lomas Distribution, its strategic distribution ally and contracted haulier for the UK domestic market.
