World Cement,
JSW Cement Ltd is reportedly considering building a new cement plant in Gulbarga, Karnataka as the economy and demand begin to pick up. The company currently has production capacity of 6.4 million t across plants in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. The proposed new plant in Gulbarga could make use of the rich limestone deposits in the area. Media reports also suggest that the company is thinking of doubling capacity at two of its existing plants, as cement demand is expected to rise by 9% per annum thanks to infrastructure spending and highway projects.
JSW Cement has also announced that it plans to switch its entire production of Portland Slag Cement (PSC) in favour of OPC. The company, which is a sister company of JSW Steel, already produces slag cement, but has told press that from now on it will produce ‘only this variety of cement’.
Meanwhile, Jaiprakash Associates Ltd has agreed to sell one thermal and two hydropower plants to JSW Energy Ltd.
