Ambuja Cements Limited wins FICCI safety award

Ambuja Cements Limited has recently won the gold award for best safety systems in the ‘large’ category of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) Safety Excellence System Awards 2012. The award was given for the excellence of the safety systems at ACL’s integrated Chandrapur plant, the Maratha Cement Works at the FICCI awards ceremony in New Delhi and presented to the representatives of the plant’s staff.

CEO of Ambuja Cements Ltd, Mr Ajay Kapur said, “We are delighted at receiving this award from the FICCI Safety Excellence Systems. Needless to say, this award further reiterates the high regard ACL holds for following and maintaining the safety norms that are reinforced in all our 13 units across the country. ACL’s safety objectives are aligned with this award’s focus on providing outstanding safety systems in a manufacturing unit.”

The award judged 115 manufacturers from across the country representing industrial sectors such as automotive, electronics, heavy engineering, textiles, cement and steel, among others. The Award’s focus is more on the presence of effective safety systems in an organisation than on performance and were shortlisted after a rigorous three stage process of safety evaluation, application forms, on site audit and finally the jury’s own evaluations. This year, the jury consisted of Dr R. Chidambaram, Principal Scientific Advisor to the Indian Government; Mr Surendra Singh, Former Cabinet Secretary; Mr Sompal, Former Minister of Agriculture and Member of Parliament; Mr Rohit Relan, Managing Director, Bharat Seats Limited and Mr Shyam Bang, Executive Director, Jubilant Life Sciences Limited.

Awards were given in three industry categories based on size of turnover: ‘large’ (turnover over Rs.500 crores), ‘medium’ (turnover between Rs.100 ­– 500 crores) and ‘small’ (turnover less than Rs.100 crores). The objective of these awards is to encourage manufacturers to adopt best safety practices and build robust safety systems in their organisation.
