India’s CSI members gather for roundtable
A roundtable with Philippe Fonta, Managing Director of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) Cement Sustainability Initiative (CSI) took place yesterday. Organised by the Dalmia Bharat Group, the roundtable included representatives of CSI’s member companies in India. At the event, Mr Fonta delivered a presentation on the responsibilities and challenges facing the cement sector, and the CSI’s role in sustainable development. He also discussed issues such as safety, low carbon technology, energy efficiency and alternative fuel utilisation, before outlining the progress made by the CSI in India thus far and a roadmap for future development.
“We have been practicing sustainable development in all our plants long before the term sustainability became famous. Our association with CSI is therefore a natural progression and reiterates our long-standing commitment to sustainable development,” explained Mahendra Singhi, Group CEO, Dalmia Cement, speaking at the event.
