According to reports, Lafarge Malaysia Berhad is set to explore new cement export markets in countries around the Indian Ocean, including Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Maldives and Bangladesh.

Bradley Mulroney, President and Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge Malaysia Berhad, told local news sources that the company was considering a venture into new export markets; however, it will also remain focused on its operations in Peninsular Malaysia. A commitment to the Malaysian government will ensure that the country receives a consistent supply of cement, despite a potential increase in the company’s exports.

Mulroney further stated that Lafarge was investing between RM45 million and RM50 million in its business operations in 2014. Another RM300 million will be spent over a period of 18 months to increase cement production capacity to approximately 1.2 million t.
