Fiji’s Pacific Cement Limited plans to increase exports from 36 000 tpa to 40 000 tpa, according to local reports. Acting General Manager Sonni Dutt is quoted in the Fiji Times, saying the company has begun exports to New Zealand and has plans to break into the Australian market. He told the newspaper that exports make up 30% of sales: “if we are selling 12 000 tonnes monthly then our exports would be 4000 tonnes. That is our benchmark and we are going through that now.”
Pacific Cement exports to 12 island nations, including Tonga, Samoa, Wallis and Futuna, Nauru, Kiribati, Cook Islands, Christmas Islands and Solomon Islands.
"Our major stronghold is in Solomon Islands and Vanuatu although we are happy to have penetrated the New Zealand market,” Dutt said.
