INSEE Cement Sri Lanka has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council to extend the company’s Skills Development and Vocational Training programme. This move means that the programme is now operating in three of Sri Lanka’s nine provinces.

Realised under the counsel and direction of the Governor of Sabaragamuwa Province, Hon. Niluka Ekanayake, the MoU was formalised by Herath P. Kularathne, Chief Secretary of the province, and Jan Kunigk, Executive Vice President and Director of Sales and Marketing at INSEE Cement Sri Lanka.

The training programme has been highly commended, well accepted, and rapidly adapted by the central and southern provinces of Sri Lanka since June 2018. Identified as an industry-transforming, up-skilling tool, the programme also serves to enhance stakeholder contributions to the progress of the local construction industry.

Focusing on the up-skilling and knowledge enhancement of technical officers, the programme is based on six modules: plumbing, electrical work, aluminium work, quantity surveying, surveying and levelling, and cement and concrete solutions.

INSEE Cement will also conduct training programmes for technical officers in the region over a seven month period. This will be conducted in partnership with the Chief Secretarial Office in the Sabaragamuwa Province and more than 200 technical officers are expected to take part.

INSEE Cement Sri Lanka has stated that it is heavily investing in knowledge sharing initiatives, with a number of public and private partnerships. This is all with the aim of up-skilling technical officers, masons, and other industry stakeholders across the country.

“We are thrilled to see the enthusiasm of technical officers across the country and encouragement from the authorities in rapidly implementing INSEE’s national level Skills Development and Vocational Training programme,” said Kunigk. “This is the third MoU we are signing for the year, further strengthening our commitment to empower local industry stakeholders through collaboration and knowledge sharing – revolutionising Sri Lanka’s construction industry to be on par with international standards.”

INSEE Cement Sri Lanka is also known as Siam City Cement (Lanka) and is a member of the Siam City Cement plc, a leading cement manufacturer in Southeast Asia.
