Hallett Construction Materials assigns Christian Pfeiffer with a sustainable ball mill grinding circuit for its Green Cement Manufacturing plant located in Port Augusta, South Australia

The Australian supplier of construction materials Hallett Construction Materials Pty Ltd, assigned Christian Pfeiffer with the delivery of a complete grinding circuit, consisting of a Ø5.0 x 16.25 m ball mill and an QDK T 250-Z high efficiency separator, completed by auxiliary equipment and conveying systems, to produce 84 tph slag cement which will be used for refilling of old mining stocks. The used slag is very abrasive and hard and therefore the requirements on the system are extraordinarily high. Hallett was considering implementing a vertical mill before the process experts of Christian Pfeiffer suggested to go with a ball mill due to lower initial investment and higher flexibility in raw materials intake. Further it could be proven that the overall energy consumption of the ball mill system was much lower, as there is no need for a hot gas generator for drying the raw materials. Hallett got finally convinced to make the decision after visiting a reference plant of Christian Pfeiffer in Germany. The technical proposal for the entire plant has been prepared in only three weeks after testing the raw material in the Christian Pfeiffer competence centre in Germany. The plant shall be commissioned in January 2024.

“For us, the sustainability of the plant is the highest priority. That’s why we manufacture cement containing 100% slag which needs to be produced at the lowest energy and operation costs. At the same time, we have highest quality demands to the cement. The Christian Pfeiffer process experts convinced us that the ball mill, in combination with a high efficiency separator, is the best system to serve our requirements.”, says CEO Kane Salisbury, Hallett Construction Materials Pty Ltd.

“We appreciate the trust of Hallett Construction Materials a lot as they changed their decision to use a ball mill instead of a vertical mill. According to our experience a ball mill grinding circuit is very often the more efficient and flexible system when we analyse our customers products and processes. We are looking forward to this new partnership and will tackle this project with our concentrated energy.”, adds Christian Pfeiffer Product Line Manager Cement, Juan Camilo Vanegas Aguirre.
