Cemex to supply cement for luxury hotel in the Philippines
Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has named Cemex as the supplier of cement for its newest development in the city of Tagiug in the Philippines. The new hotel will have 60 stories with 577 guestrooms, 97 residences and 96 exclusive Horizon Homes. It is expected to open its doors in 2013.
Cemex was awarded this contract after rigorous testing on behalf of the project’s owner and contractor. Their tests put special emphasis on flowability and temperature. The company will also supply concrete pumps that will be used in the pouring phase of the hotel and resort construction.
Conservation Book Series: “Oceans”
Meanwhile, Cemex has also announced the release of “Oceans: Heart of Our Blue Planet”, the 19th edition of its conservation book series published in partnership with the International League of Conservation Photographers and Conservation International. The book is intended to raise awareness about the critical importance of marine ecosystems. With its foreword written by H.S.H. Prince Albert of Monaco, a special tribute to the great oceanographer Dr. Sylvia Earle, and a comprehensive introduction compiled by a distinguished group of scientists, “Oceans” offers a series of precise, scientific analyses of the diversity, economic importance and challenges faced by our planet’s marine resources. The book is a pictorial call to action on one of today’s most pressing conservation challenges and is powerfully illustrated with over 150 images by some of the world’s leading conservation photographers.
