Groundbreaking ceremony for new cement plant in Kyrgyzstan
According to China’s Xinhua, a groundbreaking ceremony for a new cement plant in Kyrgyzstan took place on Friday 29 August. The plant will be established in Kemis, Chui province, some 13 km east of the country’s capital city.
The new facility is supported by Chinese investment, estimated at around US$70 million. The plant will be operated by Zeth Cement, which is a venture involving Zhu Rongjun (42%) and Tongling Shangfeng (58%), which is a subsidiary of Gansu Shangfeng Cement.
Construction is scheduled to begin later this year, and the plant is due to come onstream in 15 months. Once it begins production, the new facility will supply the domestic market and later that of Kazakhstan. The new cement plant is also expected to bring further economic benefits to Kyrgyzstan in terms of job creation and tax revenues.
