Lucky Cement’s expansion projects continues

Construction of an additional production line at Lucky Cement’s Karachi cement plant in Pakistan is “in full swing”, according to the company’s latest earnings report. Commercial operations are scheduled to begin at the new 1.25 million tpy line in December of this year, the company added.

Preparatory work on a new greenfield cement plant in Pakistan’s Punjab Province is also ongoing with the company seeking approvals and necessary authorisations from the provincial government to start on the project. The proposed fully-integrated plant would have a capacity of 2.3 million tpy.

The cement industry in Pakistan is current growing strongly with demand up 6.9% to 30.30 million t during the nine months to March 2017. Lucky Cement recorded a sales up 8.4% to 5.53 million t over the same period.

In addition to its projects in Pakistan, Lucky Cement said that it expected the first 50% of capacity to come online at a new cement grinding unit in Iraq in August 2017. The remaining capacity will then follow by October 2017.

The brownfield expansion project will have a capacity of 0.871 million tpy.

Lucky Cement posted net pretax profits of PKR14 668.8 million in the nine months from July 2016, according to the company’s latest release, an increase from PKR 13 395.1 million reported between July 2015 and March 2016.
