Nigeria’s largest cement manufacturer, Dangote Cement Plc, has expressed an interested in partnering with the Lagos State Bricklayers Association (LSBA) to tackle the issue of building collapse in Nigeria.

During an inauguration ceremony of the new executives of LSBA in Lagos, Johnson Olaniyi, Regional Manager – Marketing Services at Dangote, commented on the company’s willingness to collaborate with LSBA, led by Abel Kayode, on the training of new bricklayers and retraining of industry veterans. The training would help ensure that all workers in the industry complied with modern standards in bricklaying and, therefore, greatly reduce the risk of building collapse. Furthermore, Olaniyi stated that Dangote would provide the bricklayers with basic tools, which would help them to carry out their work more efficiently.

Olaniyi additionally commented on the role of the company’s new cement product, Dangote 3X Cement, in tackling the issue of building collapse in the country. The new 42.5R grade 3X cement has a faster drying time than the 45.2 grade cement currently used on the market and has been formulated to possess extra strength, yield and life. Mr O.I Akogun, State Head, Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Edo-Delta Zonal Office, commended Dangote’s 3X cement at a recent seminar for the Cement, Iron and Asbestos Free Products Dealers Association (CRADA) in Benin City. The seminar, sponsored by Dangote, was held to train members of the Association, who are a vital link in the company’s distribution network. Olaniyi stated that the training represented part of the company’s efforts to collaborate with stakeholders to promote standardisation in the Nigerian building and construction industry.
