Dangote Cement’s Ethiopia plant is to receive four Loesche VRMs

World Cement,

Dangote Cement’s new Menagasha cement plant in Ethiopia will incorporate Loesche grinding technology. Sinoma International Engineering Co. Ltd, acting on behalf of Dangote Industries, has contracted Loesche to supply four vertical roller mills.

An LM 69.6 will grind raw material at a rate of 450 tph (maximum 490 tph) at a fineness of 10% R DIN 0.09 mm. The VRM will have a motor capacity of 6000 kW. An LM 28.3D type mill, with a motor capacity of 800 kW, will be installed to grind local and imported steam coal. It will have a rate of 50 tph at a fineness of 12% R DIN 0.09 mm. The final two Loesche mills will be located in the clinker grinding plant. These will be LM 53.3+3C type mills with a motor capacity of 4650 kW. For clinker type CEM I A-L 42.5, the VRMs will have a product rate of 155 – 168 tph at 3200 Blaine and 230 tph at 3500 Blaine for clinker type CEM II 32.5.

When designing the layout of the grinding equipment, the bad grindability of the cement raw material and the fact that the plant is elevated at 2600 m above sea level had to be taken into account. Loesche’s scope of supply also includes metal detectors and mill rotary feeders. The equipment is due to be delivered in 2014.
