World Cement,
Unicem is collaborating with leading Nigerian microfinance bank LAPO on an affordable housing project in the country. The ‘Easy Home’ scheme was launched to support individual homebuilders, together with low and middle income earners who wish to build or renovate their own homes. The project provides access to loans that require no collateral and have lower interest rates than the commercial banks, as well as technical support.
Unicem, through its shareholder Lafarge France, in collaboration with AFD (French Development Agency) provided a long-term credit line of N1 billion to LAPO to support this initiative. This innovative solution will be extended to other states in the South-South and South-East regions in the nearest future. Over 5000 Nigerians are expected to benefit from this project.
During the official launch of “Easy Home”, the Managing Director of UniCem, Olivier Lenoir said, “we are offering the entire people of Cross River State and it’s environ an opportunity to build their dream homes. He added that the initiative is the Company’s contribution to solving the over 17 million housing deficit in Nigeria and UniCem’s ambition of building a better future.”
