PPC Ltd sponsors East African Investment Business Summit
South African cement producer PPC Ltd sponsored the East African Investment Business Summit, hosted by the Rwanda Development Board. The aim of the event, which took place in Rwanda this week, is to stimulate investment and infrastructure development. The summit was attended by representatives from industry organisations, government bodies and from the private and public sector.
“Effective infrastructure development needs to be a coordinated across borders and countries and so we are proud to sponsor this event, together with the RDB, to facilitate an East African regional approach to infrastructure development,” commented Pepe Meijer, PPC International’s Managing Director.
“Infrastructure development will provide the foundation of the growth into the rest of Africa. With infrastructure comes the ability to trade. The free trade area in East Africa will give companies access to over 200 million people. The stable supply of high quality cement and other building materials will be key in ensuring this infrastructure development,” added Meijer.
PPC Ltd has a 51% stake in Rwandan cement manufacturer Cimerwa. The plant has a cement production capacity of 100 000 tpa, and there are plans to increase this to 600 000 tpa.
