PPC Zimbabwe continues investments despite challenging climate

Work on the new cement mill for PPC Zimbabwe’s Harare plant is well on course, with commissioning expected in 1Q16, according to reports. PPC Zimbabwe Managing Director Mjombo Lekula told The Standard that the company would spend about ZWD75 million on the mill this year, in addition to ZWD6.4 million on improvements at its Bulawaya and Colleen Bawn plants.
“For the past three years we have spent about ZWD15.5 million for the Bulawayo plant and at Colleen Bawn alone we have spent about ZWD11.6 million in the past three years,” he told The Standard.
The company reported a 1% increase in sales in the four months to the end of January, despite falling exports and an economic slowdown. Cheap imports also present a challenge, and production costs are high.
